Medinipur Main Canal under East Midnapore Division
Medinipur Main Canal is a vast Irrigation Canal network system in West Bengal which connect the river Kangsabati , Rupnarayan , Damodar and Hoogly together and therefor it serve the navigation purpose also in British Period. The water supply is derived from the river Kangsabati at Mohanpur where there is a regulating weir with head works exist. This canal connect those river with their various reach. A certain reach of this canal named as Reach-VI falls under the jurisdiction of East Midnapore Division. Total length of this reach is about 19.688 km and it’s starting from left embankment of New Cosseye River and ended to the Rupnarayan river. In past , a vast land of about 50.00 Sq. Km was irrigated by this canal of Reach-V-II using irrigation water stored at Anicut over New Cosseye River at Panskura coming from Anicut at Mohonpur through upper reach of this canal. But after implementation of Kolaghat Thermal Power Project of WBPDCL , purpose of this canal is totally ended as a Intake Structure is installed by KTPS at the end of this canal.
